Paramount Pictures announced today that is indeed happening, which is no real surprise given the box office success of the last installment.

Here's the blurb from the studio press release:

"In 2012, Paramount's release slate highlights include World War Z, a zombie thriller starring Brad Pitt and directed by Marc Forster, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the next installment in the global franchise starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Channing Tatum, a new chapter in the Paranormal Activity franchise, and The Dictator, starring Sacha Baron Cohen and directed by Larry Charles, the team behind Borat."

No word yet on who will write or direct the threequel, but expect production to commence in the next few months in order for the film to meet its October release date.

Watched this on Friday. Could barely keep my eyes open at times. This found footage genre has worn on me I think.
