Default Mystikal Released From Prison/Works On New Album

New Orleans rapper Mystikal has officially been released from prison and seeks to reestablish his career as a Hip-Hop artist.

“I’m back. It almost feels like a dream,” he said in an interview with New Orleans’ radio station Q93 FM. “Six years off the scene for most rappers, it would be over with, but it’s a new beginning for me.”

"Now that he has been released from prison, Mystikal is looking forward to getting back in the game," a source close to the rapper told AllHipHop.com "He's laying low for now, but he's definitely happy to be out and looking forward to working with everyone."

The rapper, born Michael Lawrence Tyler, was released from prison late yesterday evening (January 14) after serving a six-year sentence for sexual assault and battery.

Mystikal had always maintained his innocence and said that his spirituality helped him maintain.

“It had to be God [that got me through jail]. Going through it, it was tough. I had to get outta my way and let God handle that,” he stated. “He had his arms wrapped around me tight.”

Mystikal also commented on the slew of rappers that are going to jail or recently returning home from jail. He said that rappers aren’t necessarily targeted wrongly, even though he feels falsely imprisoned.

“We gotta pay more attention to what we’re doing our self. That’s an easy excuse,” he said on air. “We gotta take responsibility for what we do. We cant be foolish especially when you are blessed and successful. We gotta tighten up”

Mystikal’s lengthy prison sentence stemmed from an incident in which he forced his hairstylist to perform sexual acts on him and his bodyguard.

He initially denied the charges, but accepted a plea in 2003, when a videotape of the incident was presented during his trial.

Because he taped the sexual assault, both men were charged with extortion.

Prior to his stint in prison, Mystikal was a chart topping rapper who have collaborated with artists like The Neptunes, Scott Storch, Juvenile, Outkast, Da Brat.

He didn’t indicate particulars on what he would be doing with his musical career, but said he had been writing significantly during his stay in jail.

Mystikal also plans to mentor kids to help them avoid the pitfalls that he was unable to avoid.

“I’m gonna let these knuckle head kids know…that dog that’s barking at them…he bit me,” he said. “I’m gonna be doing a lot of positive stuff.”

He said it hurt to be in jail for the death of his sister and Soulja Slim, as well as not being able to help his hometown during the Hurricane Katrina tragedy.

Sounding excited, he further indicated that he had been wronged, but moreover that he was prepared to reenter the music game a star.

“Wait ‘til I shake the world up now. I want reparations.”

Mystikal recently spoke about former No Limit Records labelmate C-Murder's 2009 murder conviction.

In addition to Murder, Mystikal also updated fans on his relationship with Master P.
"I haven't had a chance to speak with him since I been back though," Mystikal told DJ Whoo Kid in an interview. "I ain't get a chance to holla at him yet. I hollered at C before his [case] went the way it did, you know. We gonna see if we can work on that too, I can't let him sit in there like that. He still got some breathing room, he got a little fight left in him." (Radio Planet TV)

Default Mystikal Back In The Game With Mardi Gras Concert

Rapper Mystikal is heading right back to work since being freed from jail after serving 6 years in a Louisiana prison or sexual battery and extortion.
The Grammy Award winning rapper has been tapped to headline the “Mystikal and Friends” Mardi Gras concert at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for Performing Arts.

The rapper, who was released from prison on January 11, will perform hits like “Danger,” “Shake Yo Ass,” “Bouncin Back (Bumpin’ Me Against the Wall),” and “Move B**ch.”

“I’m back. It almost feels like a dream,” he said in an interview with New Orleans’ radio station Q93 FM after his release on January 11. “Six years off the scene for most rappers, it would be over with, but it’s a new beginning for me….we cant be foolish especially when you are blessed and successful. We gotta tighten up”

Sources told AllHipHop.com that during his incarceration, Mystikal, born Michael Tyler, wrote hundreds of songs, which he plans on recording for a new, untitled release.

“The Mystikal and Friends” concert is slated to take place February 16 at 7:30 PM. Tickets range from $36-$63.

“I just talked to him the other day,” Mystikal said of Pharell. “He says he got an armored-tank beat for me. I can’t wait to hear what that sounds like.” Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes have already recorded features and the Nola MC is also going to get in the lab with Mannie Fresh. Mys says once he fully launches his comeback, “a lot of rappers are gonna have to go back to the drawing board.”

“It wasn’t no big writing sanctuary, but I was able to put some stuff together,” he said about his time away. “I feel like I’m doing more writing now than I did there. Y’all about to be real proud.

Mystikal says he has been working steadily since his release from prison earlier this year after serving six years on sexual assault charges. In a with Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 the New Orleans rapper, who owes one more album to Jive, says he has yet to sign any new deals but that, “everybody’s interested.” He expects his new LP to see release sometime around the “end of this year. Next year, early.” Of the records tone Mystikal says, “It still has all that same punch, that same strength, and a lot of soul to it. Not to diss anybody’s stuff that’s up there…But some of them are gonna have to tear their stuff up and throw that stuff away.” Lil Wayne, Zaytoven, Mannie Fresh, and Busta Rhymes were all confirmed as collaborators on the as yet untitled project.

Speaking of the Hip Hop climate he finds himself in after an extended hiatus the NOLA emcee stated, “It’s changed a little bit…A lot of that stuff [is] pretty good. A lot of it…hey, it is what it is. But I always tell y’all if you successful don’t worry about what we say.” He did single out two young rappers for praise, though. “It’s hard not to catch Drake. He is burning the shit up so tough. And Nicki [Minaj], I really like her lyrics. She is a good fuckin rapper, period. Matter of fact, I like her a lot better than the majority of the dudes that’s rapping right now,” he responded when asked who he was feeling now.

Mystikal also commented on how difficult it was watching the devastation of Hurricane Katrina from the confines of a prison cell: “Unbelievable, it was disbelief looking at my city on that television underwater. I felt like I was supposed to be in a position to do more…But we shaking back, man. We’re resilient.”
